Bangkok Design Week 2024 has come to a remarkable conclusion. Thailand’s biggest creative festival of the year was organized for the 7th time by Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization), or CEA, in collaboration with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the public and private sectors, academic institutes, international organizations, and a network of creative economy districts. The festival was held between 27 January - 4 February 2024, under the theme “Livable Scape: The More People Act, The Better The City.” Throughout the 9-day festival, it attracted over 409,445 attendees and generated an economic value of over 1.25 billion baht in Bangkok!

“Bangkok” consistently ranks among the top cities worth visiting in various global rankings. It is a welcoming city that appeals to travelers in many ways. Yet, for the people of “Bangkok” this city is yet to be livable because of several occurring structural problems, environmental, and other issues. The matter of “city” is of everyone; the more we join together to “act”, the more we will help solve problems. This is reflected in the theme of Bangkok Design Week 2024, “Livable Scape: The More People Act, The Better The City.”

This year, every party has come together to put their creativity to transform Bangkok into a place that is even more desirable for "living, investing, and visiting." They focus on three main areas: Hard Matters, which is a city that is good for physical well-being; Heart Matters, which is a city that is good for mental well-being; and Design Matters, which is a city with good and functional design.

BKKDW2024 was packed with over 640 programs, spanning showcases, music and performances, workshops, tours, talks, special events, and markets, spread across 226 venues in 15 districts, namely: 1) Charoenkrung - Talat Noi, 2) Phra Nakhon, 3) Pak Khlong Talat, 4) Nang Loeng, 5) Yaowarat, 6) Hua Lamphong, 7) Ari - Pradipat, 8) Bang Pho, 9) Wongwian Yai - Talat Phlu, 10) Kaset - Bang Bua, 11) Phrom Phong, 12) Siam - Ratchathewi, 13) Bangkok Yai - Wang Doem, 14) Phra Khanong - Bang Na, 15) Bang Mot, and other areas across Bangkok.

What made BKKDW2024 more special is the 'HACK BKK' challenge, the challenges which CEA developed in collaboration with BMA. It allowed designers and creators to experiment with ideas to solve the real urban problems, which ultimately was further developed for Bangkok City Lab of Bangkok. Whether it is the transportation system in the area, path sign system, application of public space, demountable playground, as well as projects to enhance existing businesses in the area and works designed to promote the coexistence of people and animals in the city.

All of this is made to spark ideas and invite people to come up together to "change" Bangkok so that it becomes a better city for all. It also propels sustainable creative districts and advances Bangkok's transition into a world-class creative metropolis by fostering the growth of creative enterprises that benefit the local economy in the long run.
