Zagreb Design Week 2024

The XI. Zagreb Design Week, the biggest design event in Croatia, will take place at a unique location, Jadran Film. The film studios will provide the backdrop for the design festival. The theme of ZGDW 2024 is "Breaking the Glass Ceiling." The festival aims to promote diversity, advocate for equality, creativity, and cooperation in design.

This year's partner country is Italy, known for its significant influence on design. While Italian designers are well known, female designers often remain in their shadow. An exhibition featuring Italian designers, including guest lecturers Elena Salmistraro and Chiara Di Pinto (Studiopepe), aims to bring more attention to female designers.

A special feature of this year's edition is a series of guest exhibitions. Three graphic design exhibitions will be featured, coming from both Americas. The World Design Capital 2024, the agglomeration of San Diego (USA) / Tijuana (Mexico), will present an exhibition on mutual cultural influences titled "Percepción Peculiar." The Local Chile design festival will showcase the Chilean scene with the exhibition "Sur Emergente," and the festival director, Joaquín Béjares H., will give a lecture. The Anchorage Museum will highlight a contemporary Alaska scene with a focus on Inuit design. Barcelona Design Week will host two fashion design exhibitions from the "Sustainable Change" series — "Gender Perspective in Fashion" and "Fashion for Body Diversity."

One of the film studios is named after Orson Welles, one of the most famous directors of all time who worked in Zagreb during 1960s. Studio Orson Welles will exhibit the best-designed furniture on the Croatian market, which is traditionally presented at ZGDW. The future of Croatian design will be showcased through an exhibition of colleges and schools at ZGDW. There will also be a market where you can purchase products directly from designers, and a fashion show is reserved for Thursday, 26 September.

Applications have just been opened for eight programs, including the international design award ZGDW AWARD. The selected works will be displayed in an exhibition at ZGDW, and the award ceremony will be held at the opening.
